The Grinch

Updated: Jan 14, 2019

5/10

The Grinch? More like the Grouch… or Captain Grumpy Pants.

This is much more of a cheerful, cute Grinch than one with gritty termites in his smile. Dressed to be far more charming than suited to scare. His anger seemed ingenuine. Cumberbatch was not his usual mask in a most disinteresting way. Just like Count Olaf – WOULD YOU JUST, give it to Jim Carrey and leave it be, Hollywood?

Whoville seemed pretty normal and not extravagant. Where are all the stacked instruments, gadgets, and gizmos?? Where’s the parade with the pomp and the circumstance? Soundtrack was obviously pointed to millennials with Tyler the Creator and Brockhampton.

New backstory with much less substance to why the Grinch hates Christmas so much. In my opinion this doesn’t depict an angry hermit much less one who bears public humiliation from his child years, runs away, and lives in a mountain. Universal and Illumination (the ones who made those damn Minions) depict this cute little invention house filled with knobs and gears while his dog brings him espresso. This smart green man wakes up from a radio alarmclock and has a montage of sound tracked “getting ready” poses. The Grinch was obviously meant to be a Scrooge-like character carrying this heavy burden of hate. I mean, isn’t that the reason he lives alone in a mountain collecting garbage and talking to his dog!? This Grinch lives a life of luxury and ease with a very neat and tidy tablecloth.

Date Flick? – (Sigh)... sure.

Great Flick? – Nah. Take your kids to see this but leave the adults at home to watch Jim Carrey.
