Tenet

9.5 / 10

(Rentable, no streaming yet)

A very confusing, but amazing piece of time-traveling art. Brought to you by the distinguished director who crafted the Dark Knight, Inception, and Dunkirk. This was Christopher Nolan's second biggest budget yet and he truly delivered an absolute masterpiece.

Even the title of the film is cool, Tenet. It's an anagram which means it can be spelled the same way backwards and forwards.

Loved this trippy concept of time travel! It was totally unique and I haven't seen it done before. It's almost an homage to Nolan's early film Momento (2000) with the backwards timeline. If you haven't seen that movie, check it out. It's an absolute gem! You can watch it on PlutoTV.

Tenet has an excellent, amplifying soundtrack that constantly hypes up the story, and draws you into the action. It's very Dark Knight-esque, my lady was saying and I couldn't agree more.

Yo ALSO, I'm a HUGE fan of espionage/heist movies and to pepper in some sci-fi concepts too... ughhh yes please! (*Chef's Kiss*)

There's so much that I can applaud, that I feel like it's super important to critical. That being said, there are a few bones that I could pick.

As amazing of a time-travel heist that this is, it was super hard to follow. Naturally, most of Nolan's films move a mile a minute, so if you miss any of the low-talking dialogue, you could be completely lost. I had to do a second viewing and then watch a 15-minute explanation video on YouTube to make sure I fully grasped the storyline.

Also, low talking is a MASSIVE pet peeve of mine but not necessarily a deal-breaker. Most of my favorite movies have low talkers. It’s just frustrating when the volume is at like 35 so that I can hear the conversation, and then BOOM the explosions and music come roaring through. Do you know what I mean?

Let's talk actors -

Ok, I definitely have a man-crush on Robert Pattinson. He just keeps on making incredible movies, and I'm super pumped to see what he does next. Most recently, he killed it in Good Time and The Lighthouse. Both of which I have reviewed a while back if you want to check out my take on them. Did you know he is also going to be the next Batman? Looks like that will be coming out next year (2022).

The lead "Protagonist" in this movie was played by John David Washington. He felt like a new face to me, but that's probably because I haven't seen BlacKkKlansman or Ballers. Both of which I heard are fantastic and I need to check them out. Oh, by the way, in case you were wondering, yes, his dad is Denzel Washington.

// tl;dr //

Was it good? - It was fantastic! Would highly recommend it.

Would it be a good date flick? - Maybe, but probably not.
