6/10
It could’ve just been a movie. Admittedly this show delved into some pretty heavy topics within the space of mental health, but I certainly don’t think that they needed 10 (30-50min) episodes to hit the major plot points.
Overall, this was a bit of a strain on the mind considering it was incredibly depressing at some points. Look, I too can handle a sad story in a psycho-drama fairytale, but this was a little bit depressing. Maybe that is the point?
This was an Inception-esque sort of story set in an alternate universe of the present. It feels like it could be the future with the robots and Blade Runner-esque billboards, but they claim this to be an alternate version of the present. The plot involves a group of strangers, including Jonah Hill and Emma Stone, who enter a drug trial that promises to "fix" a host of "problems" ranging from mental illness to heartbreak. I won’t say too much, but just like any psycho-thriller the series follows the backstory and baggage of the contestants of this medical test.
The cinematography was tasteful, and I especially enjoyed the of the scale and depth of the settings. The fashion and style seemed to resemble the look of the 80s. Although the robots of this alternate universe are far more advanced than ours today with their AI technology, they are bulky and blocky like something in Star Trek or Doctor Who.
The resolution was sincere and I could buy it. Jonah Hill and Emma Stone delivered an excellent performance which was no surprise. The scientists were a bitty wacky/cheesy and I’m not so sure that this was necessary but it did provide some comedic relief.
If they really needed to take 10 episodes with this story, it should have been one long movie, but I get it - we're in this new wave with streaming services where we need to binge content.

Date Flick?: This is technically a good date flick, but I don’t think you and your special someone will be as motivated as we were to continue the series after episode 3.
Great Flick?: It was well executed with top shelf acting. I wouldn’t say it was a bad show, but I also wouldn’t say it was great. At the offset the plot was intriguing but I would not say that I was stoked to sit down and watch this through. I had to binge through the filler to get to the resolution.
