A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood

9 / 10

A touching and heartfelt story that struck a nostalgic chord with me especially since I grew up watching Mr. Rogers Neighborhood.

The lead journalist documenting the beloved tv star is played by Matthew Rhys. You might know him from the hit FX show, the Americans, which I would highly recommend you check out. I watched it through Amazon Prime over quarantine, and that is all the credit that I would like to give to Amazon. Rhys does an excellent job portraying the deeply transparent emotions of his character's trauma and it is believable to watch as a viewer. Overall, I felt it was endearing to watch these two meet each other for the first time; and in a way, it made the film star, Mr. Rogers much more human. May he rest in peace.

Ok, bottom line - Tom Hanks was a fantastic Mr. Rogers, standing by it. I'm not surprised though considering Hanks never ceases to deliver on his roles. There are still so many more Hanks movies that I need to catch up on. Guess I have to get an Apple TV subscription to watch that movie, Greyhound.

Fred Rogers was a saint, and someone to take up a page in the television history books. Similar to Sesame Street, much of America was raised on Mr. Rogers, including myself. This movie in a way spoke much more to the adults than the kids, and it was genuine.

TL;DR

(TOO LONG; DIDN'T READ)

Was it good? – Yep, it was a good movie.

Date Flick? – Sorta... Not exactly my first recommendation for a date flick but something to get ya in the feels.
