Bold, Bloody, and Barely Predictable. If you can get past the blood, then I think you will like this one.
My circle had mixed feelings as to whether this deserved that 94% on rotten tomatoes, but I felt like it was damn good. Ok, not better than “Get Out”, but certainly still an hauntingly excellent story. Pay attention in the beginning and don’t stay after the credits, there’s nothing after.
Peppered with motifs and symbolism so definitely keep an eye out for reoccurring themes. Even the first shot establishes a keen eye for symbolism. The parallels are vivid and there is certainly a good reason (or not so good) that these people showed up in the first place. Although I will say, just when you think you know what’s going on, you don’t. I love a movie that isn't predictable. Didn't love all the jump scares though, I will say. I feel like that is low hanging fruit, but it wasn't over the top like other scary, psychological thrillers
Phenomenal lead performance from Lupita Nyong’o. There was certainly no shortage or bravery and perseverance with her character in this movie which I genuinely admired. This family is not so helpless after all. Elisabeth Moss and Tim Heidecker were a fun couple as the other family across the lake with kids who all played together. Loved Elisabeth in Mad Men, and especially excited/shocked to see the lead from Tim Eric in this one.
At the end of the day, there were some open-ended questions which will leave the subreddits and the forums to fend for themselves. I'm not spoiling it for you, ok!? Maybe a plot hole, that's all I'm gonna say. DM me if you wanna talk it out. All in all, I really do appreciate when a director leaves you with a few pieces to play around with in your mind.
Jordan Peele also has another one up his sleeve too! If you watched the recent (2019) Superbowl, then you may have caught the trailer for the new CBS, Twilight Zone series. I'm a huge fan of the original 1960s black-and-white series, so you can imagine my excite for this revamp.

Great Flick? – Yea, I’m not a fan of jump-scares, but the concept unraveling the thread between our characters and the villains was thrilling.
Date Flick? – Some dates may not like the jump scares, but that’s not always a bad thing if you’re trying to snuggle up.
